Welcome to National Nursing Assistants Week!
June 9th – 16th is National Nursing Assistants Week. What better way to show your support for a C.N.A. than to nominate them for Caregiver of the Year Award? Submit your nominations by June 15th for one of three categories: caregivers; social workers, director or nursing, or a supervisor of direct care workers; and administrators.

The Joint Finance Committee is wrapping up their budget deliberations. Please view the latest budget update related to long term care issues.

This month’s e-newsletter highlights the Direct Support Professionals Fairness and Security Act of 2005, a congressional bill to increase wages paid to targeted direct support professionals in providing services to individuals with disabilities under the Medicaid program.

Additionally included in the newsletter is a study regarding wage parity and its impact on worker retention, concerns about the FBI background checks in our Q & A section, a mentor program implemented by our “In the Spotlight” agency, Cady Memorial Home, and Norma Silas-Martin, June’s featured careworker.

Thank you,
Anne Medeiros
Project Coordinator
